The boys and girls basketball teams have one goal in mind: winning. Both are considered undersized and will rely on tenacious defense and pushing the ball on offense.
“We will definitely focus on defense. We held teams to under forty points a game last year so that will be another goal,” said head girls coach Katherine Clifford. Head coach of the boys team, Steve St. Martin, echoed the same ideas. He enforces full court, man-to-man defense to all his players.
The teams work out multiple times a week and play in tournaments during the off season. “You feel prepared best you can be, but it’s like going into an exam you study but you always feel you are missing something,” said St. Martin.
St. Martin also hopes his experienced senior players lead the team to a TVL title and a state title. Senior players Tim Giovino, Dylan Linehan, Allie Moron, and Christina Bonfiglio are all returning to the rosters.
Clifford said that her girls are making the jump well to the varsity level and having a versatile bench play is essential to winning games.
The teams have high expectations from not only their coaches but also their fans.
